How to Cleanse Your Space with Sage (the Respectful Way)
Jordan Okafor · April 8, 2026 · 4 min read
White sage has been used by Indigenous communities of North America for centuries. Source ethically — look for sustainably grown, non-wild-harvested bundles.
Open a window before you begin. The intention is to move stagnant energy out, so it needs somewhere to go.
Light the tip of the bundle, let it flame for a few seconds, then gently blow it out so it smolders.
Walk slowly through each room, fanning the smoke into corners, doorways, and windows. As you go, name what you're releasing — tension, doubt, the residue of a hard week.
When finished, press the bundle into a heatproof bowl of sand or salt to extinguish. Thank the plant.
