The 10 Alkaline Healing Herbs Every Beginner Should Know

An alkaline herb, in the Dr. Sebi tradition, is a non-hybrid plant grown in mineral-rich soil that the body recognizes as 'electric' food. These ten are the ones beginners reach for most.
1. BURDOCK ROOT — A powerful blood purifier, traditionally used to clear skin, support liver detox, and gently move the lymph. Take as a tea or tincture.
2. DANDELION ROOT — Bitter, liver-loving, and gentle on the gallbladder. A daily roasted dandelion tea is one of the kindest things you can do for digestion.
3. SARSAPARILLA — High in iron and traditionally used for skin clarity, joint comfort, and hormonal balance.
4. YELLOW DOCK — Iron-rich and a classic remedy for anemia, sluggish digestion, and dull skin. Often paired with burdock.
5. ELDERBERRY — The immune system's best friend. Sip elderberry syrup at the first sign of a cold, or daily through winter.
6. SOURSOP (GRAVIOLA) LEAF — Used across the Caribbean for sleep, calm, and immune support. Steep the leaves for a soothing evening tea.
7. SEA MOSS — The mineral powerhouse (see our full sea moss guide). Add a tablespoon of gel to smoothies daily.
8. CHAMOMILE — A nervous-system reset in a cup. Drink before bed or during anxious afternoons.
9. BLADDERWRACK — A sister sea vegetable to sea moss, rich in iodine and traditionally used for thyroid and metabolic support.
10. HORSETAIL — High in plant-based silica, supporting hair, nails, bones, and connective tissue.
HOW TO BUILD A SIMPLE PROTOCOL — Choose two or three of these herbs that match your current need. Drink them as teas, take them as tinctures, or blend powders into smoothies. Stay consistent for 30 days before judging results — herbs work slowly and deeply, not like pharmaceuticals.
Always source organic, wild-harvested, or ethically grown herbs. And as always: this is education, not medical advice.
